Sabbath Candleholders Brass Pair Standing Men 19th Century Poland. A similar pair on display in the Jewish Museum in New York. It is rare for Judaica to have graven images of men and people due to Biblical prohibition of graven images. Some Judaica artisans got around this problem by caricature or by altering the figures such as cutting off parts of the faces. In this case the noses are abnormally flat and the beards and clothing are distorted. It is rare to find a pair of these candlesticks. Height 9.25 inches, length about 8 inches, Base about 4 inches, weight 2 pounds each.
