Leon Garland Jewish Chicago WPA Artist art deco drawing in a neo-classical style. Made in the 1930s.  Very nicely done work. Landscape with chickens. Creasing on left hand side. Made on sketch paper. Minor area of discoloration by house in background.

Leon Garland is a very famous Chicago artist and part of the Chicago Society of Artists. He worked in the textile industry and immigrated here from Russia. He was also good friends with Morris Topchevsky and became involved with Hull House. He also was well traveled and studied at the Andre L’hote School in France. Size of the work is 11X8 inches. With the mat it is about 16X13.5 inches. signed lower right.
