Raphael Jacob’s Dream Biblical engraving. Original piece. Created in 1649. Depicts angels climbing up the ladder to heaven. Very powerful surrealist imagery. Size of the work is 10.25X9.5 inches. Appears to have been trimmed. Sized on the back by original owner, from 1788. Upper right hand corner is missing a bit. Minor wear to borders. Good condition for its age.
Raffaello Sanzio de Urbino was an Italian painter and architect. He worked with Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. The combination of these artistic masters created the “trinity” of great artwork of the period. He only lived to be 37 years old but left a large amount of artwork. His most famous artwork is at the Vatican Palace. He created the Raphael Rooms, which are large frescoes. His most famous work is titled “The School of Athens.” Raphael created many prints/ engravings throughout his lifetime.
