Leon Garland Jewish Chicago WPA Artist Drawing Mending Nets 1930s. Depicts a fisherman mending the nets. Very nicely done work. Sketch for a painting. Social Realist style.

Leon Garland is a very famous Chicago artist and part of the Chicago Society of Artists. He worked in the textile industry and immigrated here from Russia. He was also good friends with Morris Topchevsky and became involved with Hull House. He also was well traveled and studied at the Andre L’hote School in France. Size of the work is 4.5X7.75 inches. With the mat it is 12X15 inches. signed lower right.
