Karl Mattern colorful still life 1962. It depicts a modern still life with fruits and vegetables. Bold green, yellow, red, and purple colors. Size is 20X16 inches. With the frame it is Minor paint loss on work. Size with the frame is 20.75X17 inches.

He studied at the Gymnasium in Germany. Karl Mattern studied under George Bellows at the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1925 Albert Bloch had Karl Mattern teaching at the University of Kansas. He then moved to Iowa and had one man exhibition shows. He won many awards and his paintings are in the Joslyn Museum in Omaha, the Des Moine Art Center, and the Denver Museum of Art.
