Edward Millman egg tempera on board. Colorful and bright painting of a Mexican woman with a background sign that says “Hoy,” meaning today in English. Beautifully done. Size is: 

Edward Millman studied with Diego Rivera and Jose Clemente Orozco in Mexico. He learned to make a social realist style of painting. He made murals for the Federal Art project for the American government, during the depression. He was a teacher at Hull House in Chicago.  In 1939 he gained the largest commission of the WPA for $29,000 dollars to paint a mural in the post office in St. Louis, Missouri. During World War II he was in the U.S. Navy and painted many scenes of war.
