Description
Charles Locke lithograph. The title is “Brooklyn Heights- The Old Street.” Edition of 40. It was created around 1940. It depicts a bustling street scene around the WPA era in New York City. The Brooklyn bridge can clearly be seen in the background. Locke was a regionalist artist from Cincinnati, Ohio. He studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy and the Art Students League in New York City. His teacher was Joseph Pennell. He also went to Paris to study artwork. He won many prizes and his work is held at the Phillips Collection, the British Museum, the Corcoran Gallery, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
